| In order to meet existing local workplace requirements in Australia and New Zealand, the Emergency First Response First Aid at Work (Asia Pacific) programme is based on the consensus view of Basic Life Support (BLS) Working Group of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) as well as the guidelines published by the Australian and New Zealand Resuscitation Councils. It is designed primarily for teaching workplace first aid in Australia and New Zealand. Only a current, Teaching status EFR First Aid at Work Instructor or Instructor Trainer (trained in the Asia Pacific edition) is authorised to teach this course. |
First Aid at Work Asia Pacific
Emergency First Response First Aid at Work (Asia Pacific) is a CPR and first aid course specifically written to meet workplace requirements in Australia where occupational health and safety regulations stipulate that businesses must have first aid trained personnel on staff.
PADI’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) mapped the First Aid at Work course to meet both workplace requirements and the following Nationally Recognised Training units of competence from the Australian vocational Health and Outdoor Recreation Training Packages:
- HLTCPR201A, Perform CPR
- HLTFA201A, Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
- HLTFA301B, Apply First Aid
- SRXFAD001A, Provide First Aid

| This course describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. This course was previously known as Senior First Aid, Workplace Level 2 or Level 2 qualification. This is the advised minimum requirement by Workplace Health & Safety Legislation for the workplace first aider. |
Pre-/Co-requisites
| There are NO pre-requisites or co-requisites for this competency unit and trainee must be able to understand instruction in English Language. |
Duration
| The trainee is required to do self-study at home approximately 5 hrs prior to the classroom training, which is based on 40 multiple-choice questions that will assist you to get know the content of the course in their own time as well as prepare you for the face to face (7hrs) training in the classroom. The content of self study will be discussed again in the classroom. |
Award
| On successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a statement of attainment, which is valid for 3 years. As per the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines the HLTCPR201A Perform CPR unit needs to be completed every 12 months |
Course Topics
1.basic principles and concepts underlying the practice of first aid
2. procedures for dealing with major and minor injury and illness
3. priorities of management in first aid when dealing with life threatening conditions
4. basic occupational health and safety requirements in the provision of first aid
5. infection control principles and procedures, including use of standard precautions
6. chain of survival
7. first Aiders' skills and limitations
8. Understanding of the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including when to use and when not to
9. First aid management of:
10. abdominal injuries
11. allergic reactions
12. altered or loss of consciousness
13. bleeding
14. burns - thermal, chemical, friction, electrical
15. cardiac arrest
16. casualty with no signs of life
17. chest pain
18. choking/airway obstruction
19. injuries: cold and crush injuries; eye and ear injuries; head, neck and spinal injuries; minor skin injuries; needle 20. stick injuries; soft tissue injuries including sprains, strains, dislocations
21. envenomation - snake, spider, insect and marine bites
22. environmental impact such as hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration, heat stroke
23. fractures
24. medical conditions, including cardiac conditions, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma and other respiratory conditions
25. near drowning
26. poisoning and toxic substances (including chemical contamination)
27. respiratory distress
28. seizures
29. shock
30. stroke
