Semester Under The Sea Certificate Programs

Certificate Program in Underwater Research or Marine Photography

Incorporates all diving and environmental knowledge into one major semester project or dives may be used for environmental volunteer work (rebuilding reefs, reef monitoring, underwater clean-ups, turtle protection, etc.)

PADI Certifications:

This semester is a perfect educational experience for students who seek the opportunity to experience and understand the beauty and importance of the ocean ecosystem. Students will have the opportunity to ‘dive’ into their school work for a semester. Students will learn in a beautiful environment. This semester will be your opportunity to learn while scuba diving in the exotic ocean environment. Student planning careers in environmentalism, conservation, archaeology, history, geography, research, education, underwater photography, underwater video, environmental travel, tourism careers and many other fields of study will benefit from this semester exploring the coral reefs. Research divers participate will be trained to participate in all aspects of underwater research projects. Photographers will have the opportunity to photograph the beauty that surrounds you.

Tuition includes (up to 12 credit hours available), Housing (12 weeks), Island Safaris and Island boat tour, full set of scuba equipment (wetsuit, BCD-buoyancy compensation device, weight belt, mask, fins, regulator, underwater writing slate, equipment bag, electronic RDP - student keeps all scuba equipment and books), college credit transfers, use of underwater camera and strobe, all boat fees, transportation to and from all dive trips and research projects, participation in research projects, and registration fees.

Semester tuition fees 396 000 Baht  2007 / 2008 semester.

Housing will be arranged for students in tourist quality accommodations (included in tuition)

Does not include: Air fare to Phuket, Thailand, meals except when on diving tours - lunch is provided on boat days. Estimated student food cost for the semester 15 000 Baht. PADI Instructor required materials.

A minimum of 120 scuba dives - all PADI certification cards and college tuition transfer

Diving and educational semesters are seasonal from October to May

Apply early - only 8 student openings available for 2007 semester  

Partial scholarships available to students who have demonstrated environmental commitment

Mini-Semester Programs

One Month semester program - Students may be eligible for up to five (5) college credit hours

Orientation to Reef Check Coral Reef Monitoring methodology and coral reef survey
   

Total Dives available - minimum 50 dives

Semester fees 162 000 Baht. Includes all training, diving equipment use, books, certification cards, hotel room for one month, transportation to and from airport, all boat fees and transfers, and college credit transfer fees.

Total dives available - minimum 100 dives

Semester fees 288 000 Baht. Includes all training, equipment use, books, certification cards, hotel room for two months, transportation to and from airport, all boat fees and transfers, college credit transfer fees.

Advanced Diver Program - for students that have completed the two month diver training program or full semester program and aspire to a career as a PADI professional in diving sciences.

Students may be eligible for up to six (6) college credit hours.

Total dives available - dependent on training schedule

Time requirement - 4 to 6 weeks minimum

Semester fees 162 000 Baht (does not include registration and examination fees paid directly to PADI)
 


Optional PADI Underwater Video course – certification, additional dives, use of Sony 3 CCD video camera - 18 000 Baht.

Students with previous dive training and certifications are offered alternative classes and dives.

Courses are taught according to PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) standards: www.padi.com

University and college diving expedition packages (scientific or adventure) are available for educators. Participants journey to the Similan Islands, the islands of Phuket, Phi Phi or venture into the Mergui Archipelago of Myanmar. We offer daily excursions or you can indulge in a life experience upon our live-aboards.
