PADI Asia Pacific Oxygen Administration Distinctive Specialty

COURSE STANDARDS & OVERVIEW

This course represents entry-level training designed to educate the general public to provide emergency oxygen first aid while activating the local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and arranging for evacuation to the nearest medical facility.

Participant Prerequisites

To qualify for the PADI Oxygen Administration Course, an individual must:

1.       Hold a current Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary care

qualification (or have a qualifying certificate from another training organisation).

2.       Be 10 years of age or older.

To qualify for a statement of attainment in “Administer Oxygen in an Emergency Situation (SRXEMR003A), an individual must:

3.       Hold a current Emergency First Response First Aid at Work Asia Pacific certificate (or have a qualifying certificate from another training organisation). Currency is determined by the local state or country requirements. I.e. in Australia: Queensland requires a certificate that is renewed annually; New South Wales requires three years.

4.       Be 10 years of age or older.p

5.       Hold a statement of attainment in “Provide First Aid” (SRXFAD001A) or equivalent unit of competency. Contact PADI Asia Pacific for information on equivalent units of competency prior to enrolling the participant.

To teach a course which results in a statement of attainment, there are additional requirements that must be met to comply with the Australian Qualification Training Framework (AQTF) standards.  The following qualifications are required for the Instructor:                            

  1. Hold a statement of attainment in “Administer Oxygen in an Emergency Situation” (SRXEMR003A)
  2. Hold a statement of attainment in “Provide First Aid” (SRXFAD001A) or equivalent unit of competency.
  3. Hold the national Competency Standards for Assessment: BSZ401A, BSZ402A and BSZ403A or TAAASS401A, TAAASS402A, and TAAASS404A.
  4. Hold the Emergency First Response First Aid at Work (Asia Pacific) Instructor rating (or higher).

Contact PADI Asia Pacific Training Department for the additional information and documentation required to train and assess for PADI’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

The participant-to instructor ratio is 12 participants per Instructor. You may increase the ratio to a maximum of 24:1 when using one or more qualified assistants. A qualified assistant is:

·    A current PADI Instructor or Emergency First Response Instructor

·     A current First aid and CPR Instructor with another regionally recognised organisation. Contact PADI Asia Pacific for details on recognised organisations.

·     A trained medical professional with an emergency care back-ground (eg, paramedic, EMT, nurse etc)

Please note that if the course is to result in a statement of attainment, the additional qualifications required by the AQTF also apply to the qualified assistant.

The maximum participant-to-oxygen unit ratio is 12:1.

COURSE OVERVIEW

To conduct an Oxygen Administration course, the following must be included:

  1. The PADI Asia Pacific Oxygen Administration presentation.
  2. Demonstration and skills practice of assembly of an oxygen unit, administration of oxygen, disassembly of an oxygen unit.
  3. Scenario evaluations 1, 2 and 3.
  4. Theory examination.

This course meets the requirements for the unit of competency SRXEMR003A. If the course is to result in a statement of attainment, then following must also be included:

All required information and paperwork for both participant and Instructor to meet the Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF) is available from PADI Asia Pacific’s RTO. The AQTF standards must be adhered to, in addition to PADI standards, once the Emergency First Response Instructor is contracted to PADI Asia Pacific’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

CERTIFICATION PROCEDURES

The Emergency First Response Instructor obtains an Oxygen Administration certification by submitting a completed, signed PIC to PADI Asia Pacific. The Emergency First Response Instructor must ensure that all certification requirements have been met.

Student to Instructor Ratio: 12:1
